Deck Review: All Seeing Heart Oracle Cards
The All Seeing Heart Oracle by Saira Hunjan intends, according to its booklet, to “help you focus on the many aspects of your heart wisdom.” It was created for spiritual contemplation and growth, specifically to help us connect to the Divine by opening our own hearts. Each card presents a gorgeously detailed drawing of a different fantastical blue-ink heart, sometimes with wings, sometimes with reptilian scales, and even sometimes with Escher-like staircases winding through the chambers of the heart. Each heart is accompanied by a title, such as Guardian Spirit and Rebirth and a one-page entry in the booklet with keywords, divinatory suggestions (although we are invited to use our intuition to reach an interpretation), and a recommended ‘heart practice’ which consists of meditations, rituals, and other practical steps to integrate the messages of our heart.
It’s beautifully-designed as well as beautifully-intentioned. I feel that this deck would be a wonderful supportive tool for anyone on a spiritual journey. I also feel that it would be a great tool in helping us to articulate, and integrate, matters of the heart, and, in fact, I found myself reaching for this deck instinctively during a heartfelt conversation with my partner (we sometimes like to incorporate tarot and oracle decks in our discussions, especially when we’re going around in circles and want some direction). The cards we pulled from the All Seeing Heart Oracle described our situation perfectly, and helped each of us to reach an understanding of the other’s inner heart-truth.
This deck, to me, falls more on the challenging side of the oracle spectrum. The hearts definitely lean more morbid and gothic than cutesey (those bloodshot eyes!), and you will encounter card titles like Hidden Fears, Inner Nemesis, and The Storm. The cards are large enough to showcase the rich detail of the art, but not so large as to make shuffling troublesome. The card stock is thick and sturdy, so even if you can’t get a good riffle going you can definitely trust that these cards would be safe and secure on display in your sacred space.
I found out on Saira Hunjan’s website that she is a tattoo artist as well as creator of the All Seeing Heart Oracle. Her website explains that “monochrome drawings allow the depiction of intricate details and are used to provoke a re-imagining of absent colours.” That explains the single-colour palette of the deck, and I agree that this choice means we are left to fill in some of the meanings ourselves. In most other decks, colour can provide a big clue to interpretation; not so with this one, which means a lot is left for us to intuit and discover. I do feel that a strength of this deck is how much it encourages you to go deep and find answers within yourself. It’s tough enough to require you to face challenging truths, but gentle enough that, when using this deck, you will likely feel seen and supported.
